ACU is a political-cultural center in the Voorstraat, directly in the center of Utrecht. ACU is non-commercial, independent from the municipality’s agenda, and fully run by volunteers. ACU has found its niche as is for more than 40 years integral part of Utrecht’s cultural and political scene.
ACU is host to a wide range of activities: café, vegan restaurant, concerts, disco nights, political events, jam sessions, benefit events, parties, movies, library, and meeting place for political and cultural initiatives.

In ACU it is allowed to bring your own snacks and food as long as these are vegetarian. Please order drinks at the bar.
Accessibility
ACU aims to be fully inclusive, but unfortunately the architecture of ACU is not yet adjusted. Please use the comment box with your booking or email us for further questions and to let us know of your needs so that we can make the right arrangements.
Below we describe the facilities and physical features of ACU.
Entrance: The entrance hall has a step of 15 centimeters. ACU has a ramp available for this step and can be placed in advance. The door at this step is a double door and can be opened fully for a wider opening.
The bar area: The bar area is where Queer Arcana hosts the make-up workshop. It is takes place at a long table with wooden chairs. Other tables and chairs in the area may obstruct accessibility, but can be moved.
Toilets: The toilets can be reached through a long corridor which needs a turn from the bar area to get there. There is one room with two toilets cubicles and one room with one toilet cubicle and urinal. There is no wheelchair accessible toilet, but one of the rooms is large enough to store a wheelchair outside the cubicle. There is no wall handle.
The venue area: The venue is reached through two heavy double doors which can be kept open. During the games of Queer Arcana these will be closed to close off noise from the bar area. Queer Arcana uses wooden ‘beer tables’ and benches which are set up on the sunken floor and the stage of the venue. The sunken floor has a wide stairs of 7 steps to get one meter down. There is no stairs to reach the stage from the venue floor, but the table at the stage can be reached through the corridor and backstage if needed. This route has no thresholds.
Noise sensitivity: Roleplaying can be very noisy and we understand this could obstruct the roleplaying experience. During the game we try to remind each other to keep in mind our volumes for other players. We also aim to have a break around 20:30 of 15 minutes. During this break the venue becomes quiet as most people come to the bar. ACU also has a quiet free shop which can be visited during this time. If you feel you need an extra break or would like to leave the table for a bit, this is always possible. Just tell the DM/GM about your needs.
